Green E. D.

It's true, greens can't perform. Worse, they try to prevent others from doing so by smearing fud on everything.

Japan . . . Flirts With Environmental Disaster

Fifty-five million years ago the world's climate was catastrophically changed when volcanoes melted natural gas frozen in the seabed. Now Japan plans to drill for the same icy crystals to end its reliance on imported energy. . .

Japan is joining the U.S. and Canada in test drilling for methane even as scientists express concerns about any uncontrolled release of the frozen chemical. Some researchers blame the greenhouse gas for triggering a global firestorm that helped wipe out the dinosaurs.

They just want to huddle together under the bed and whine. Others don't have these defects.
In the West, this potential fuel from the ocean floor has for the most part been the stuff of fantasy. But it's a different story in Asia. The People's Republic of China is investing millions to study this massive source of energy. The same holds true for India, South Korea and Taiwan, all nations that are on a fast track to surpassing the West as economic powers. . .

The needs of these emerging economies continue to rise. Each year, China increases its power consumption by an amount equal to France's total annual power production. . .

China is energetically seeking new ways to satisfy its voracious demand for more energy. And Chinese officials are pinning their hopes on methane hydrate as one of these ways. . .

World reserves of the frozen gas are enormous. Geologists estimate that significantly more hydrocarbons are bound in the form of methane hydrate than in all known reserves of coal, natural gas and oil combined. "There is simply so much of it that it cannot be ignored," says leading expert Gerhard Bohrman of the Research Center for Ocean Margins (RCOM) in the northern German city of Bremen.

The world needs energy. China adds a France worth of energy consumption every year. It is simply ludicrous for western countries to pretend that this resource will not be used. It will be used, so they would do best to be deeply involved and try to get it right. It isn't smart from any perspective to leave the pioneering to those who may not be as skilled or cautious, but who are desperately hungry.

If these media outlets had any freaking sense then their stories should scream that greens and other fellow travelers are increasing the world's risks by shoveling fud on inevitable and essential technologies. This won't stop those technologies, it'll just drive them offshore, underground or into criminal hands. That's the story that needs to be told. The greatest danger to the environment comes from environmentalists.
